International yachtsman Sir Robin Knox Johnston has spoken of the importance of having first class medical kits onboard vessels and thanked Hutton’s for its support of the world’s most gruelling yacht race.
Hutton’s Group is assisting official medical sponsors Clipper Telemed and Praxes Medical by supplying medical kits and stores to the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race.
During the year-long race Hutton’s Medical is utilising its medical management system to track stock onboard all the race yachts, ensuring they comply with MCA regulations at all times and providing replacements as required at each stopover.
We restocked the medical stores following the 5,630 nautical mile UK to Rio de Janeiro leg and are on track to restock again when the vessels arrive in Cape Town at the end of the second round.
Established by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the world’s longest ocean race, also known as one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges. Twelve teams compete against each other on a matched fleet of Clipper Race 70 ocean racing yachts over a 40,000 nautical mile long course.
Sir Robin said: “The work of all our medial teams is fundamental to the sailors’ wellbeing and gives peace of mind to their family back home. Clipper Telemed won’t be able to do the excellent work they do without the expertise of Praxes or the supplies that Hutton’s provide.”
In Rio Hutton’s Medical restocked a number of medical stores including sea sickness remedies! Crew members have been reporting on social media how they have suffered from “the big green monster”.
“Most of our sailors haven’t experienced the rolling waves of the world’s oceans before so seasickness can be a problem. Some think they can overcome it, but reach for the tablets anyway,” Sir Robin laughed.
